what is real problem and solution of health care system in US?

It is not a surprise that current U.S. health care system faces many problems such as heavily dependent on their employment status, multiple payers and variation even within health plans. Although we spend more medical/ health funds than any other country, we routinely get poor or even worse results in health. It may be due to misplacement of priorities in health care system; we put too much attention to developing advanced medical technology, innovative pharmaceutical drugs and high cost of unnecessary medical administration.

Just as we have seen on the video, our health care system is not sustainable even if we have health insurance. It is because lobbies from the hospital, medical technology and pharmaceutical companies are just so powerful over the Congress now since reorganizing health care system in US mainly deals with policies and plan. As most of people claim as alternative, is single-payer system (universal health care) the answer to the current chaotic health care system in US? There is absolutely no such thing as free in the world. Single payer (universal health care) means higher taxes because government will increase the average tax rate by amount equivalent to the cost of providing health care and administration to the people.

Medicare is an example of universal health coverage and numerous studies show that Medicare is currently in debt of couple billions (not quite sure exactly). Or just look at Massachusetts’ health care reform as the video mentioned. It has been about three years since health care reform has taken in place and it just proves that the health care should not just about covering all people. It must address the other essential components of the health care system such as appropriate management, cost and quality of care (primary and specialist). Massachusetts’s health care is not affordable for many families due to high deductibles and co-payments for office visits and medications. Instead, it causes an additional out of pocket expenses to most of the patients. Moreover, the cost of the reform in the state of Massachusetts has dramatically increased within a couple of years. In addition, the health reform in Massachusetts does not guarantee access to the health care. People don’t use their insurance even if they get sick because they can’t simply afford high deductibles.

Improving access to affordable healthcare for all people should be main emphasis in health care reform, not more expensive private health insurance we simply can't afford to use when we get sick. We have to pay attention to quality of health care as well because it actually can save lots of moneys through preventive care.
