The right to healthcare

The video emphasized the existing notion that healthcare is a privilege to the wealthy and a benefit to the employees of large companies. It also emphasized a troubling point of uninsured 47 millions people, and growing as the economy struggles. These evidences show that the right to health remains unrealized in the U.S.

When I think of whether healthcare is a right, I recall the affirmative action. How much the right to health care is different from the right to education, employment, and business? As the affirmative action promotes equal opportunity without discrimination on race and gender, why not promote equal opportunity for healthcare without discrimination on the ability to pay? I believe that health is the most fundamental necessity in life that gives me ability to learn, work and pursue happiness. Though this idea is shared among others and morally-sound, this is ignored by lobbyists and insurance companies who claims profits over people. However, the success of Medicare program is inspirational and evident that shows a strong public lobbying power as well as support by the lawmakers in Congress. I think what we need is similar unity and strong support to achieve the right to health care for all.
